Fish & Chips & Petrified Wood (with a nod to Teddy Roosevelt)

After our visit at the New Mexico Cancer Treatment & Research facility we went to the university district in Albuquerque to have lunch at another great spot called “Two Fools Irish Pub”. Great fish & chips and service. It was a bit crowded as it was UNM graduation weekend but well worth the wait.

After lunch we pressed on towards Holbrook, our destination for that evening. We also had planned a stop at the Petrified Forest. The Petrified Forest National Park is in an amazing landscape with over 200,000 acres of pristine untouched wilderness. The weather looked rather ominous approaching the park and we did end up driving through some areas where it had just rained, but fortunately the worst of it went both north and south of us.

Once again we were treated to incredible vistas along the route. At the elevations we were traveling (between 5,000 – 7,000 ft.) it was a bit chilly, and again very windy. John had dressed in layers and needed it all with the wind, occasional rain squalls, and dropping temps at that elevation. Mike and I continued on with tops down in support but with the advantage of side windows up, heaters on, and in my case heated seats. But with that said the truth of the matter is you simply cannot appreciate the majesty and magnitude of the landscapes we experienced without dropping the top. Thanks for the inspiration John!
